"The World Belongs to You" is a song on Jonathan Coulton's eighth studio album, Artificial Heart.

Live performance[edit]

This song has not been played live as of yet.

"The World Belongs to You" is available on the album Artificial Heart, which can be ordered through Coulton's website or on iTunes.

Fan Interpretation[edit]

This song appears to describe a hypothetical scenario in which a man discovers that he is Jesus, returning for the second coming (or some other messiah-like character). He finds that the power goes to his head, becoming a celebrity in the process, only to realize that in doing so, everyone (including his angels) thinks he's an asshole and has overstayed his welcome.

Alternative Fan Interpretation[edit]

The song could also be describing a small child or baby. When a baby is born (especially a first child), they might become, quickly and easily, the center of all attention. Everything revolves around the baby, then as the baby grows and becomes a naughty toddler or even obnoxious teenager, everyone who was fawning over them rolls their eyes and leaves.
