"A Laptop Like You (demo)" is a song on Jonathan Coulton's collection of miscellaneous tracks, Other Experiments.

History

"A Laptop Like You" was written in response to a request that Jonathan premiere a new song at his second appearance at the Pop Tech conference, in 2004.[1]

Live performance

As mentioned above, "A Laptop Like You" premiered at Jonathan's second appearance at the Pop Tech. It is believed to have never been performed at a Jonathan Coulton concert.

Trivia

  • The attributes of the laptop described in the song make it clear that Jonathan is singing about an Apple Macintosh laptop. Modern Mac operating systems are based on Unix, Macs have a one-button mouse, the keyboards on some versions of Mac laptops did leave keyboard-shaped marks on the screen, etc.. The fact that the singer is willing to overlook the laptop's shortcomings is typical of enthusiastic Mac owners as well. (Jonathan uses a Mac laptop onstage when he plays his Zendrum.)

It's probably overkill for me to have a set of lossless music for home and iPhone quality music to go. I should just compromise for one standard set of music.

CD

"Other Experiments" has not been made available in CD form.

Other versions

A karaoke version of "A Laptop Like You" is available on the Jonathan Coulton Karaoke Store.
