Trivia

  • Forty-second Thing a Week, released July 21, 2006
  • The song was inspired by various 70s horror movies that "scared the hell" out of Jonathan Coulton when he was a child.
  • The "correct response" to the big reveal, according to Jonathan, is "Ooooh". - video

Themes

Horror, surrealism, allegory. The song sounds like it is about a rich person(said like it is you, with your big city money) buying a house on a hill, then he finds a 'creepy doll' running around up stairs. "you" end up going "antiquing" and then buys a box from a old man to find that the key that comes with the said box, has the "your" name name on it. Then It drives you crazy, then you throw it in a box, and then throw the said box into the fire, when you realize the one inside the box is you. The picture really fits the description of the doll.
