Recommended Forum Posts for July '08
1. Week of 2008-07-06 - 2. Week of 2008-07-13 - 3. Week of 2008-07-20 - 4. Week of 2008-07-27

This is a list of recommended posts for the week from Sunday, July 13, 2008, to Saturday, July 19, 2008. The point of this list is to give newcomers a quick way to grasp what's going on in the forums, as well as to create a mechanism for feedback on forum contributions.

Ground rules:

  • Every week, we'll do some kind of summary post in the forums, to round up the results from these recommendations.
  • A nomination and two supporting votes will guarantee a post or thread makes it into the summary. (Those numbers may change.)
  • Obviously, no nominating or supporting your own posts.
  • Be sure to include:
    • A link to the relevant post or thread.
    • The name of the forum member who made the post.
    • A quote or descriptor to make it clear what the substance of the post or thread was.
    • Your own name, and whether you're nominating or supporting.

Comments

  • A thread with lots of twists and turns, but all interesting: Encubed started it to show off part 6 of "A Talk with JoCo," Jinx's and my five-part interview with Jonathan Coulton. Jinx took the opportunity to post her really perceptive thoughts on the interview. Then Spiff, building on one of Kerrin's posts, came up with the idea of a web app to help people suggest and sponsor song ideas. A great microcosm of what I like to see in the forums -- funny, insightful, and innovative. --Bry 15:32, 16 July 2008 (EDT)

  • I agree with this nomination, but I liked the entire thread so much that I've nominated it, above. --Bry 15:34, 16 July 2008 (EDT)

Insightful posts

Start Here

These are threads that are good places for new forum members to dip their toes in. This is meant to be a recurring feature -- that is, this list will appear every week, is the intention at least. As such, I'm not going to so much allow votes as accept suggestions. --Bry 00:13, 14 July 2008 (EDT)

Forum Code of Conduct / FAQ thread

  • I want, nay need, people to be familiar with the forum code of conduct, even if the FAQs are a mess at the moment. --Bry 00:13, 14 July 2008 (EDT)

Introduce Yourself

  • I definitely think this is a great thread to start off, and I really enjoy hearing what people have to say about themselves -- the danger is that people may expect that they have to read every previous post in the (quite lengthy) thread. --Bry 00:13, 14 July 2008 (EDT)

Favorite Songs List

  • Yes, I've just nominated three threads I started. And yes, that's specifically against the rules I myself set out at the top of the page. I'd even suggest the "Favorite JoCo moments?" thread, if I didn't think that was pushing it. But I really think this one needs to be in, because every JoCo fan can at least talk about songs they like, can't they? --Bry 00:13, 14 July 2008 (EDT)

How did you discover JoCo?

  • Here's another thing that every newbie can talk about, and I always love hearing what paths they took (not to mention it's interesting to see ways that we might be able to spread the Gospel a little). --Bry 00:13, 14 July 2008 (EDT)
