"I'm Your Moon" is a song on Jonathan Coulton's seventh album, Thing a Week Four.
History
"I'm Your Moon" was released as the forty-seventh Thing a Week on August 25th, 2006, after several people suggested Jonathan write about Pluto's new status as a dwarf planet.
Live performance
"I'm Your Moon" is played somewhat regularly at Jonathan Coulton concerts. Jonathan usually gives a full explanation of the song's origins and what it means before playing it, casually damning the scientists who changed Pluto's status. Because there is no major solo in the song, the live version is essentially an acoustic version of the original recording.
Trivia
- "I'm Your Moon" is classified as a sweet song on the Listening Suggestions page.
- The song is written from the view of Charon, Pluto's moon. Because Charon is almost half the size of Pluto, the two do not have a traditional orbit; in fact, they tend to rotate around each other in a seesaw like motion. In addition, the two celestial objects are gravitationally locked, meaning the keep the same "face" towards each other ("like dancers", according to Jonathan's blog of the song). It is a unique relationship unlike any other in the known universe.
