Alternate version by lightmanx5

+
I wish to submit my version for the approval of the community. My aim was to create a version that is short enough to fit on one screen or two printed pages and highly readable. I've created a PDF [https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/421370/Jonathan%20Coulton%20-%20I%20Crush%20Everything.pdf here]. I found some difficulty learning the song with the version above, so I made some changes, but I didn't want to change the above because it's very good! I'm not really sure how this all works, so please forgive me if I've committed any sort of faux pas.
+
+
I took careful aim in where I placed each chord. I observed that a lot of chord changes happen on the vowel rather than the consonant of some words and if you look carefully, you might notice that. The part I had the hardest time with was the placement for the chorus chords. So, I hope at least you will accept my chorus version, if nothing else. (Although, I simplified the G(2) to just G.)
+
+
Please refer to the above version for the intro tabs and chord fingerings. Once you have those down, you can use my version as a guide and even print the PDF for use on a guitar stand or even a digital device that can read PDFs.

Latest revision as of 20:02, 9 October 2021

Original transcription by M_pony and cb, revised by Suuuupaadave. This song uses some basic fingerpicking. The walkdown section chords may have naming issues, but the motion is correct based on the chords shapes. Em7 and G have 2 different voicings, the second one denoted by the (2). It may seem intimidating at first, but like anything, with practice, can be mastered in a short time. There are two videos that can assist you greatly in learning this song...

I can't be the thing I was before
G D/F# Em7 A7 D Dsus4 D Dsus2
Maybe I am better o-ff alone
        G A7 G A7
Because I crush everything and I crush everything
    G A7 D *
and I crush everything (   1st, 3rd & last times to INTRO;

[VERSE 2]
D Em7 D Em7
My body's strong, but my will is weak
D Em7 D Em7
I got pretty nice arms, but I hate my beak
            G A7sus4
And the dolphins are all phonies
They seem nice enough at first
But they pretend to be your friend
Until they see you at your worst and then they
D Cadd9 G/B
Leave you, without a word they swim away (to CHORUS)

[BRIDGE]
          Bm F#m Em G
And every thing I want I take
          Bm F#m Em G
And every thing I love I break
          Bm F#m Em G ( hold two more measures of G )
And every night I lie a-wake (to INTRO)

[VERSE 3]
D Em7 D Em7
Did the stars come out? Did the world spin round?
D Em7 D Em7
Does it matter that much when you're ten miles down?
           G A7sus4
In the light that filters down
into my giant yellow eye
I can see the sails unfolding
Stretching white against the sky and
     D Cadd9 G/B
I forgive them, I forgive and I let go (to CHORUS)
