Hello Len, Nora. Jonathan Coulton, here, calling to talk to you about Under the Pines. Obviously, a sort of a break-up song. A one-night stand gone bad between Lenord Nemoy and Bigfoot during that famous, it happened during that famous 'In Search Of...' episode. You know, I knew I wanted to write a big- bigfoot song, but everything I was coming up with was, sort of, too obvious and hackey and weird. Obviously, I went with the break-up song because that's my thing, you know. But it was sort of boring until I realized that it was actually Lenord Nemoy. Who should be the jilted lover. But, you know, I kept it subtle. I like that. Bigfoot is not even mentioned, nor is Lenord Nemoy. It's not exactly clear what is going on; it is, sort of, a puzzle song. And I sort of like the melody a lot, even though I'm pretty sure I stole it from somewhere. But, yeah, that's the story, Under The Pines. You know, the love that they must have shared, a very special moment, but Bigfoot is a total asshole, as everyone knows.
