More recent archives at the top.

To Do (April 28, 2008)

Quick Stuff

  • Write a trivia entry for We Will Rock You and We Are the Champions to explain what Len's VTAW is modeled after (hint: a Queen album cover!). - DONE --MitchO 08:04, 25 April 2008 (EDT)
  • Link Len in Podsafe Christmas Song (or at least say that it's the same Len who later went on to draw VTAW) --mtgordon 23:34, 27 April 2008 (EDT) -- also link it to the yet-uncreated Creative Commons page, which I need to get around to making.
  • Explain the fan-submitted handclaps in We Will Rock You. - DONE --MitchO 08:04, 25 April 2008 (EDT)
  • Write a little more on the science behind I'm Your Moon. - DONE. (I don't know how to do crossout) --MitchO 00:34, 25 April 2008 (EDT) (But I do) --Bry 00:48, 25 April 2008 (EDT)
  • Edit down the text of the blog post on The Big Boom -- trim as much as possible, then surround the rest with blockquote tags (which look like this: "<blockquote>" and "</blockquote>"). -DONE. What bits of the blog post are left are in their own section. I may or may not move them again later. Sushimustwrite 11:24, 25 April 2008 (EDT)
  • You guys need an explanation of what the "thing a week" is/was - I was just reading randomly, clicked through from Coulton's website, and have no idea. -Iain DONE, at least a first draft -mtgordon 22:08, 2 May 2008 (EDT)
    • I completely agree. Who made Thing a Week just redirect to the songs list? I'm-a find out, and I'm-a gonna kick some ass, Iron Man style! --Lex (talk - contribs) 18:14, 2 May 2008 (EDT)
      • That was me. I saw it as a temporary way to deal with all those red links for Thing a Week. Drove me nuts. --MitchO 18:25, 2 May 2008 (EDT)
      • /me kicks Mitch's ass, Iron Man style! --Lex (talk - contribs) 18:49, 2 May 2008 (EDT)
  • Explain the Line Rider (is that what it's called?) reference in the VTAW for Drive. DONE --mtgordon 21:32, 30 April 2008 (EDT)
  • Describe the provenance, as far as you know it, of JoCo's You Oughta Know cover. DONE --mtgordon 00:53, 2 May 2008 (EDT)
  • Point out where else we've seen the characters pictured in the VTAW for Summer's Over. (Also, say something about it being the last original TAW.) - DONE. I didn't list all the characters, but I'm not sure we'd want to say everyone anyway. --MitchO 00:43, 25 April 2008 (EDT) REOPENED - I think it'd be cute to have them all. If not on the Summer's Over page, at least in the description of the Summer's Over VTAW...? --Bry 11:10, 25 April 2008 (EDT) DONE --mtgordon 23:16, 1 May 2008 (EDT)
  • Summarize the inspirations for First of May, perhaps linking Image:Espy - First of May.jpg and quoting from this blog post.
  • Create a page for Kristen Shirts DONE --mtgordon 23:48, 27 April 2008 (EDT) and
  • Check out Image:IMAGE.jpg and Image:Jonathan placeholder.jpg -- at the bottom of each of those pages, there's a list of pages that use that image. Since those images are really placeholders, all those pages don't have real images yet. Pick one and check to see if Len's got a VTAW drawn for it, or find another appropriate image, if one's out there. (Confirmed no proper VTAW for the rest, though some have other images theoretically available. Skullcrusher Mountain has a non-VTAW image from Len, but it's not CC licensed. Not sure how to handle that. IMAGE.jpg is currently only used by a template. --mtgordon 22:02, 30 April 2008 (EDT))

More complex stuff

New Skin (April 28, 2008)

What does everyone think? --Agent Lex 23:00, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, Lex but YUCK. --MitchO 23:03, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

April Fools joke is over. Glad you enjoyed it ;) --Agent Lex 12:15, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Time Zone(April 28, 2008)

All due respect to our illustrious overlord, I mean protector ... but shouldn't the JoCo Wiki be on the same time zone as JoCo? I noticed that we appear to be on GMT. I would think the bulk of the users are going to be American. Sorry Lex, but it's true :) --MitchO 15:04, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

The wiki actually defaults to UTC, which happens to correspond to GMT. I'll see if I can change the time zone once I'm home from work. --Agent Lex 15:37, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

  • ETA: Time zone has changed to EST/EDT, which should be reflected in the following signature: --Agent Lex 14:45, 3 April 2008 (EDT)

To Do (April 18, 2008)

(At least the ones I can think of off the top of my head...) freelance writers

  • Finalize the song template (and the navigation template from lyrics / tabs pages)
This looks good. Not immutable, but I like how it looks. --Bry 23:17, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
    • What other pages should be attached to each song (just duplicate the ones from the song details pages? User-submitted content like videos, etc., would be good; the They Might Be Giants wiki has an "Interpretations" page for every song, but JoCo lyrics don't tend to be obscure in the same way, so maybe that's not as necessary. A "Downloads" page?)
  • Add templates for album, shows, possibly lyrics and tabs
Still like a real show template, perhaps with set list and everything. --Bry 23:17, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
  • I'd like a compendium of interviews he's done
I'd still like this
I have put some interviews in as a category - someone just needs to put a link somewhere to access it -mason
  • "Rarities" and other things not linked on the Songs page (e.g. "One More Score," "You Oughta Know")
These have been added, at least the ones I can think of.
  • Add all manner of content (as suggested above, figuring out how to standardize the pages should probably come first).

--Bry 01:54, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Other ideas [submitted by jinx]:

  • A chronology? List of events, album/song dates, concerts, and so on, so that if people think "I went to such-and-such a concert, when was that?" there's a quick place to go to find out. See This Day in JoCo --Agent Lex 20:41, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Some set of links to items that are related as inspirations to the songs, like wikipedia pages on George Plimpton and Benoit Mandelbrot and so on.
This is now in progress: List of people mentioned in songs --Bry 23:17, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
  • For Aftermath, links to the recording sessions with notes on what parts are laid down in each session.
  • List of non-JoCo songs covered in various concerts? (Or are there copyright issues involved?)
This seems to be in progress at the bottom of the Discography -- I am not a lawyer, but I think copyright shouldn't be an issue... --Bry 23:17, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Bry again:

  • Page on Creative Commons (suggested by Mason)
  • Album track list (albumnav template) at bottom of song pages Rough version going on the TAW albums and Smoking Monkey --Agent Lex 20:41, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Real deletion policy (for non-notable things, etc.)
  • Discussion page for songs, as opposed to talk page about song wiki? I mean, discussion like, "I like the demo of Soterios Johnson better, but I like the lyrics of the TAW release," not "I think the release date is entered wrong."

--Bry 23:17, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Moved this list to discussion --Agent Lex 13:30, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Mason:

  • Page Titles (ie - the one that appears in the title bar of your browser, dont have "Jonathan Coulton" in them - which they should as it will help with google search etc. finding these pages when people search for jonathan coulton.
    • Adding these would be a real pain at this point, since we'd have to change the name of the wiki from JoCopedia to something like "Jonathan Coulton wiki". The Jonathan Coulton page should still come up, and of course any page with the words "Jonathan Coulton" in. --Agent Lex 13:07, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
Could we, however, include a tagline or a slogan or something that includes the words "Jonathan Coulton" on every page, like the line at the bottom of every Wikipedia article, "Wikipedia® is a registered trademark of the Wikimedia Foundation, Inc., a U.S. registered 501(c)(3) tax-deductible nonprofit charity"? [For an example, here's a random page. This time I literally went to Wikipedia and clicked "Random article".] --Bry 20:56, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
Managed to find a way to add it to the title of the main page, after all! --Agent Lex 21:20, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
It very much appears as though Wikipedia's "name", at least internally, is "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia" -- which means that it appears in the title bar of each page, and every article page has "From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia" on it. Would it be possible to call this something like "JoCopedia, the Jonathan Coulton wiki" or something? --Bry 23:36, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
Well, I finally managed that. It was easier than I thought, but there was NO documentation for it! --Agent Lex 19:02, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
  • Is there a way to keep track of how many times a song was played in concert? My guess would be count the number of pages in the Category:Shows that link back to a Category:Song page. If we set up a flag on the Show that indicated a full Setlist was there, we could even come up with a percentage of times that song was played in concert! The stat geek in me is interested, but I'm wondering if other people would be as well, and whether or not it's something we can do. I just like my data well rounded ... :D --MitchO 15:05, 9 April 2008 (EDT)
