Solid State is Jonathan Coulton's nineth studio album, released in 2017 along side a graphical novel also titled Solid State. According to Coulton, the album "has a bit of a concept behind it," with a "character that you follow throughout his life."[1]. Solid State carries dystopian themes and an almost disappointment in how the internet has connected people but also brought them further apart. These ideas can be found in songs like Don't Feed the Trolls which cleverly pokes fun at the way people behave online.


History[edit]

In 2015, during JoCo Cruise 5, Jonathan Coulton disclosed that he had been working on a new album and played early recordings of two tracks, including All This Time and another song.[2]

In 2016, during JoCo Cruise 6, Coulton announced that "the music was done" for the new album, saying he was "hopeful that [fans] will be able to hear it very soon."[3] During the cruise, he performed four tracks from the album: Brave[3], Square Things[1], All This Time[4], and Your Tattoo[5].

Solid State released on the 28th of April 2017, simultaneously with the Solid State graphical novel.
The Album is available on CD, Vinyl, Digital Download and to stream via services like Spotify and ITunes.
