The method I use is where I have the medoly planned out first. I'll have the chord progression/riff mapped out, and structure the song accordingly, i.e. plan out the verse/chorus/etc. Then, I'll hum out the vocal medoly, and that helps me work out how many syllables are in the line, and I can write lyrics accordingly. Does that make sense?I used to have a method where I'd just write the lyrics and then try to write a medoly to go with it, but it's not as easy that way.
