:: Fair enough! Another possible way to split it might be between "longer-term" projects and one-time productions -- I'm kinda being intentionally vague because I'm not sure of my ground, but there might be a definition along the lines of "projects" meaning either an ongoing series of productions or something that seeks to involve a bunch of fans. Maybe it's a "production" if I create and YouTube a sock-puppet "dance" to [[You Ruined Everything]], but it's a "project" if I either announce that I'm going to start doing a bunch of sock-puppet dance videos or try to get other people to submit their sock-puppet dances. splintering off long lists[edit]

I think Videos and Art, in particular, run the risk of outgrowing this page. Motion that they be splintered off to other pages with links from here. (A Category:Videos, sub-Category:Fan vids may be in order.) --Bry 12:40, 23 April 2008 (EDT)

that seems reasonable to me. Although arguably there is no point in splintering them until they actually start to grow. Personally I find maintained lists more useful than categories, but there's no reason not to have both, as long as we commit to maintaining both. Jadelennox 13:57, 23 April 2008 (EDT)
Fair enough! Another possible way to split it might be between "longer-term" projects and one-time productions -- I'm kinda being intentionally vague because I'm not sure of my ground, but there might be a definition along the lines of "projects" meaning either an ongoing series of productions or something that seeks to involve a bunch of fans. Maybe it's a "production" if I create and YouTube a sock-puppet "dance" to You Ruined Everything, but it's a "project" if I either announce that I'm going to start doing a bunch of sock-puppet dance videos or try to get other people to submit their sock-puppet dances. (All the suggestions I mention, by the way, sound completely unwatchable.) --Bry 14:23, 23 April 2008 (EDT)
By the way, there already is a category (of sorts) for videos - at the moment all video pages with the SongNav template automatically get put there. Please don't take that away, because it took me forever to get that working properly :P
On the subject of productions/projects, I'd consider a project as either an ongoing joint effort by many people to get something done (e.g. the musical production) or many connected things from one person/a group of people (eg JoCoPro or Spiff's WoW videos). A production would be the finished product, so if that musical eventually happens and someone YouTubes it, that would go under "production". Actually, I don't like the use of the word "production" for that, maybe we could come up with a better word. --Lex (talk - contribs) 07:45, 24 April 2008 (EDT)
"Creation"? --Bry 12:19, 24 April 2008 (EDT)

Within the Project type page, it might make sense to separate them by song, when possible. --bryanjbusch 14:32, 23 April 2008 (EDT)

We may as well add them directly to the song page/Other fan content, then... --Bry 14:41, 23 April 2008 (EDT)
I agree, keeping song-specific videos on the song's video page is best. That's what they're there for! --Lex (talk - contribs) 07:45, 24 April 2008 (EDT)

This sounds reasonable, as the video section is already the longest section, and we're just getting started. Which raises another question. Linking to every single Youtube fan video on JoCo--yes or no? Sushimustwrite 20:57, 23 April 2008 (EDT)

I vote no, but I don't want to be on the committee that decides which ones get cut :p --MitchO 21:23, 23 April 2008 (EDT)
I don't want to be the "notability" guy, but if we have a list of a hundred videos with no quality control, I don't know that anyone's going to watch them all (edited to add: or any of them). I would rather shunt YouTube videos to the Videos page of the appropriate song, e.g. I Feel Fantastic/Videos. In fact, perhaps that's a measurable way to settle my "projects / productions" quibble (above) -- given a fan production, if there is an appropriate "other fan content" or "videos" page for it, it goes there, and otherwise it can come here. Thoughts? (Votes?) --Bry 23:03, 23 April 2008 (EDT)
I also vote against being notability guy. But I do agree that some form of QC should be in place on song video pages, or we'll repeat the one for code monkey all over again. --Lex (talk - contribs) 07:45, 24 April 2008 (EDT)
What about, and this might get technical, having a different "article" or "template" or "page" for each user video, and setting up some kind of voting system where they're arranged on the videos page by rank? --Bry 12:19, 24 April 2008 (EDT)
I know that there are extensions that allow rating of articles, but I don't know about being able to sort articles by rating, within an article. I guess in theory it's possible, but I don't know if anything exists to actually do it. --Lex (talk - contribs) 13:33, 24 April 2008 (EDT)
It having been over a week since the last comment, I am going to start moving non-"projects" off of this page. --22:52, 6 May 2008 (EDT)
