: Looks good, Wesley! (See, for example, [[Podsafe Christmas Song/Lyrics]].) Would you happen to know how to script the song-nav template's removal from all the main song pages? I'm sure we could get people to remove it by hand, otherwise, but I'd like to learn how it's done. --[[User:Bry|Bry]] 03:21, 5 May 2008 (EDT)

New SongNav layout

Old

The Future Soon

Proposed, style 1

Proposed, style 2

I've got an idea for a new SongNav layout. Yes, that's essentially just the Categories bar modified with links to the various song-related pages. However, it satisfies a few of my personal gripes with the old SongNav:

  1. It's less big-and-in-your-face. Being at the top of the page is enough attention.
  2. It doesn't wrap to several lines long all the time. As I type this, the old SongNav is 3 vertical lines long.

Comments are invited! Improvements, criticisms, bugs--post about them here. — Wesley | 06:02, 4 May 2008 (EDT)

Actually, I think I slightly prefer the current one, provided it gets taken off the main song pages and left on the lyrics, videos, etc. page, which is still what I have in mind. I agree that it takes up too much room on the main page, but on the other pages, there may not be that much else going on for it to distract from. (I don't have any objection to the revision, either, though.) --Bry 08:19, 4 May 2008 (EDT)
What I don't quite understand from the plans is why are we apparently keeping the top SongNav if we're going to have the links in the InfoBox on the side? It's redundant. I like having it on the side and eliminate the top nav bar. --MitchO 09:52, 4 May 2008 (EDT)
I'm under the impression that we don't use the SongDetails (sidebar) template for the various subpages of each song, such as the Lyrics subpage and the Videos subpage. For those pages, we'll just stick a SongNav bar at the top of the page so it's easier for readers to move between the subpages. We agree that the SongNav should be removed from only the main song pages, right? Please correct me if I totally misunderstood you :) — Wesley | 10:13, 4 May 2008 (EDT)
I agree, they need to be removed from the main song pages. I guess it makes sense to keep them on the subpages. --MitchO 10:49, 4 May 2008 (EDT)
I've got a second style above that much more closely matches the original SongNav. It still fixes the wraps-too-much problem though. Better/worse than old SongNav? Things that should change? — Wesley | 10:13, 4 May 2008 (EDT)
I like this one, Wesley. I'd be happy to see style 2 replace the original. --Bry 19:57, 4 May 2008 (EDT)
