Michael "AiYume" Charboneau discovered JoCo after a friend sent him a link to the song Baby Got Back when it was released as part of the Thing A Week project. He found Where Tradition Meets Tomorrow on Yahoo Music and promptly bought it. After seeing some non-JoCo machinima using World of Warcraft, he started working on a video for Skullcrusher Mountain and gave an incomplete draft cut to JoCo while he was touring with John Hodgman. The project languished for awhile, until Spiff started making videos. During an e-mail exchange asking about video techniques, it came out that they were both making videos for Skullcrusher Mountain. They decided to set a deadline and release the projects at the same time.
