Re: spam discussion
Hey, Apollo, thanks for letting me know about the discussion about spam. I would certainly prefer to combat spam by prevention rather than cleanup, but I don't have access to anything -- about all I can do is talk to JoCo etc. and ask them to do something, but I honestly don't know much about what tactics to recommend. It would probably help if someone better informed would e-mail JoCo or Scarface and suggest things.
By the way, are you on the forums? That's generally the best place to reach me these days... --Bry 13:44, 1 June 2012 (EDT)
- well, you can find instructions for changing user rights here. the problem is that i'm pretty sure only a bureaucrat can do that. i dunno if there's any way for anyone to promote theirself (or someone else) to bureaucrat or something. i can talk to my friend CapitalQ, who is more knowledgeable about wikis than me, and get back to you on that! i find forums to be terribly confusing, so i am not on there, but since everyone kinda points in that direction maybe i ought to register an account. -apollo 18:02, 2 June 2012 (EDT)
You don't need to block the users with the long names anymore. They don't spam. The thing 15:41, 17 July 2012 (EDT)
- ah, fair enough. better safe then sorry i guess. but, i have to apologise, i haven't been around much lately; after having been away from my computer for a week i kind of got less enthusiastic about keeping up with these things. i'm going to email scarface later this week about really cracking down on spambot account creation through the CAPTCHA, i asked about it a few weeks ago but perhaps something prevented a follow-through? i'll look into it. -apollo (colloquia!) 22:12, 17 July 2012 (EDT)

Special:Contributions/Kunaguers is replacing legitimate external links with spam. A notice was already placed by other users on JoCopedia talk:Moderators recently. --Elassint (talk) 20:14, 11 March 2014 (EDT)
