Cool, I like how it does the prefilling of the page. Thankfully, it doesn't clobber a page if it already exists, which is bonus-nice.

As for the table that shows the reader how to format the title, I've been experimenting with this idea:

Chicago, IL: 2008-05-03

  • City name
  • State abbreviation
  • Year
  • Month
  • Day

I think it's a little more visual and catches the attention of the reader. What do you think? — Wesley | 01:53, 8 May 2008 (EDT)

Hey, that's a really neat idea! I'll have to look at it again in the morning, because it's hard for me to tell at the moment how easy it is to read, but I think it's clearer than the vertical-text or the table. (Then again, I'm not color-blind, so I don't know if that'd make a difference...) --Bry 02:06, 8 May 2008 (EDT)
Oh shoot, forgot about colourblindness. This idea might need a little retooling... — Wesley |
Trying something out:

Chicago, IL: 2008-05-03
1      , : 3   --

  1. City name
  2. State abbreviation
  3. Year
  4. Month
  5. Day
That doesn't quite line up right -- let's try it sans border:

Chicago, IL: 2008-05-03
1      , : 3   --

  1. City name
  2. State abbreviation
  3. Year
  4. Month
  5. Day
What do you think? --Bry 13:29, 8 May 2008 (EDT)
Probably asking for a lot, but wouldn't it be more user friendly to make each of those colored boxes an input box and then have the button compile them together into the page name? I still wouldn't trust people to understand when to do commas, colons, etc. You know what they say, "If you make your software idiot proof, they'll just build a better idiot." --MitchO 13:31, 8 May 2008 (EDT)
I quote myself, from User talk:Wesley#Begging for someone smarter than me to help:

How's your PHP, Wesley? Could you modify the Inputbox extension to have it take two parameters (city and date) for the sake of show creation? (And for the record, I was in favor of titling these pages by date only, e.g. 2008-05-03, rather than Chicago, IL: 2008-05-03. That would've simplified things now; oh, well...) I think this may be the only situation in which it'd be useful to modify this code -- most of the other pages to be created are straightforwarder, I believe. --Bry 23:08, 7 May 2008 (EDT)
