Revision as of 14:41, 29 May 2008

Hiya Wesley, backup Welcomer and Show format cleaner-upper MitchO welcoming you to the JoCopedia! We're just starting out everything, including our rules and help section, but feel free to poke around and add any suggestions and knowledge you have. Thanks for signing up. :D --MitchO 14:18, 26 April 2008 (EDT)

Thanks for working on the songs that don't have full info yet, Wesley ... do us a favor and check out a song like Shop Vac to see the standard format we use. --MitchO 14:28, 26 April 2008 (EDT)

I know it seems that I'm just spamming up your user talk page Wesley, but I just wanted to drop a note to say that I'm *loving* your formatting and information updates. You've already proven to be a great editor for us, and given me plenty of positive work to make the JoCopedia a great place. Thank you. --MitchO 11:33, 28 April 2008 (EDT)

Thanks for the compliment! I'm a big fan of JoCo, and I love this wiki, so it only makes sense for me to help out where I can :) Wesley 17:16, 28 April 2008 (EDT)

Hey Wesley, the new SongDetails looks good, and you can go ahead and replace the existing one if you like. Thanks for the improvement :) --Lex (talk - contribs) 07:47, 30 April 2008 (EDT)

WesBot has been bot'd now. That should definitely eliminate the Captcha for him, among a couple other bot permissions I don't know about for sure. --Lex (talk - contribs) 09:28, 5 May 2008 (EDT)

Bots have deletion rights now, so you should be able to delete all those Template:DATE pages now. :) (yes, I managed to do it at work, though not having my regular php editor makes things much worse) --Lex (talk - contribs) 07:24, 8 May 2008 (EDT)

Begging for someone smarter than me to help

And that someone is you, Wes. :) Do me a big favor, check out User:MitchO/Main Page and help me find where I'm missing the damn closings. I can't get my boxes to go where I want them to ... this is what happens when you cannibalize code instead of, you know ... knowing what you're doing. --MitchO 22:58, 4 May 2008 (EDT)

I knew there was a Bam! missing somewhere simple. I will fiddle with either what Bry or you added. Thank you both, I was going cross eyed over that one. --MitchO 08:51, 5 May 2008 (EDT)
No problem, and good luck! I look forward to what you and Bry cook up over there :) — Wesley | 08:55, 5 May 2008 (EDT)

I'm glad Mitch started a section with this title so I'd know where to post this. :) How's your PHP, Wesley? Could you modify the Inputbox extension to have it take two parameters (city and date) for the sake of show creation? (And for the record, I was in favor of titling these pages by date only, e.g. 2008-05-03, rather than Chicago, IL: 2008-05-03. That would've simplified things now; oh, well...) I think this may be the only situation in which it'd be useful to modify this code -- most of the other pages to be created are straightforwarder, I believe. --Bry 23:08, 7 May 2008 (EDT)

Unfortunately, I'm not good with PHP, and I have no idea how extensions work. I'm afraid I won't be able to modify Inputbox at all. However, it's possible to make something like this:

When you click Create show page, it actually includes a reminder about the song title at the top (where, admittedly, nobody reads). However, at least there's a sample page name for people to imitate. — Wesley | 23:29, 7 May 2008 (EDT)
(For posterity: See User:Bry/Create show, etc., for more on that subject.)
Do you think User:WesBot could help out with WikiProject:Help Pages? Apparently there's a python script written already, but I haven't gotten around to installing everything yet for User:SockyBot ("Socky" being the name of my forum sock-puppet / test account). Also, while you're categorizing the VTAWs, could you possibly use a sort key to get them in order by week? --Bry 09:53, 8 May 2008 (EDT)
For the VTAWs, it would probably be easier to do that by hand, over time. The filenames aren't uniform, and there's no existing numbering of any sort.
As for mirroring of the MediaWiki help pages: it seems like that's a lot of stuff to be bringing over. Do we really need that much help documentation on JoCopedia? We can always just cover the basics (by copy and pasting from the public domain pages where necessary) and point them to the MediaWiki Handbook for detailed stuff. Will that be enough? — Wesley | 10:57, 8 May 2008 (EDT)
Sorry, I wasn't clear -- I meant sorting the VTAWs by hand. And your idea sounds okay to me, but then we need people (human people) to do the selection of what to copy over and what to edit... well, okay, I suppose. :) --Bry 11:04, 8 May 2008 (EDT)

Formatting on your user page

The page at User:Wesley's gone all wonky for me. Any idea what's up? --Bry 04:01, 5 May 2008 (EDT)

Oh shoot. Thanks for the heads-up. I think I got a little too fancy in putting in that fancy e in Pokemon. Man, that's an ugly-looking page right now though :P
Nope, turns out I forgot to make the curly quotation marks the right way. I thiiink it's safe to use curly quotation marks by typing ’, but I actually have to make sure I'm doing that :P Again, thanks for letting me know about the broken page!

A banana for you!

Really, all I do is use one person's code on another person's spot, but nonetheless this is to thank you and to test me modifying Percephene's code:

Thank you!

MitchO wants to offer you a thank you banana!!!

You're such a helpful
code monkey!

Wes, I'm putting my work out there on my Main Page. I think it's pretty much ready for the front. I'd love your 2 cents. Thanks. --MitchO 16:04, 9 May 2008 (EDT)

Thanks for the code cleanup suggestions, Wesley, I pretty much copied them verbatim. Hopefully Lex can get the new page up this weekend. BTW, "Puddin" was just me being silly, it has no real point of reference in JoCo world. It's what Harley Quinn calls the Joker. Seriously, if people think it's just too weird or random or unfunny, let me know so we can remove it. --MitchO 10:53, 10 May 2008 (EDT)

Hope you have a good vacation, I should've said earlier. Well, I guess you'll see this when you get back, then... --Bry 11:09, 10 May 2008 (EDT)

I sure will! Or, I mean, I sure do! Or, by the time I'm typing this, I sure did! Thanks! — Wesley | 13:00, 25 May 2008 (EDT)

Awww thanks ;)

Thanks for not just the wee note you left me, but the other ones I've seen you sprinkling around :D Its like a wiki-hug round here atm, tis very nice what with everyone appreciating each other! :D Thanks! ~ Percephene ~ talk contribs 05:13, 11 May 2008

Glad you feel that way :) Because if you didn't, it would be mighty akin to group therapy. Just saying. :P — Wesley | 13:00, 25 May 2008 (EDT)

Welcome back Wes

Saw you remove your vacation message. Hope you had a good one. --MitchO 09:29, 25 May 2008 (EDT)

Thanks, MitchO! More than glad to be back though :P — Wesley | 13:00, 25 May 2008 (EDT)
